Podcasting, Vodcasting & Business Models

I have witnessed the phenomenal growth of podcasting and vodcasting, where people create their own radio or TV shows. The success of MySpace is a clear example of how much people love to express themselves, including this blog site.

Writing is always harder than performing. You put a thousand monkeys in a room, you won’t get a Romeo & Juliet script, but you definitely get a show. (Millions blogs have proved that, even though we are a lot smarter.)

Anyway, my point is that, there is no way to make big bucks having a podcasting or vodcasting. It is a great tool for building relations or create new cultures, but that’s it, there is no green here.

Think about the business model for Podcasting/Vodcasting owners, google ads do not apply. Will there be a technology to support these new forms of media? I mean, you listen to the radio, you expect audio advertising (please donot get into XM radio). You watch a TV program, you get your 30 seconds break every once a while. Is it hard to insert a commercial into the podcast or vodcasting?

So far, advertising in radio and TV programs sucks. Look at them, it is NOT content revelent. The closest thing they got is product placement in the movies. I wonder how I can survive the pre google ads era.

Anyway, I believe that only companies that can make money from these technologies are tool companies, just like typepad and mysapces.

However, technically speaking, Podcasting and Vodcasting are not fancy technologies, the only way to compete is the user interface, which is beyond the scope of programming.
